Cinderella’s Sister Episode 1

It’s Good Friday and I promised myself that I would not touch my computer as part of my sacrifice for the Lenten season but since I have also offered a sacrifice of only eating one meal today, I am dying of doing something that could quench this hunger. I tried watching Mel Gibson’s The Passion of Christ, Cecil B. DeMille’s 10 Commandments and Jesus of Nazareth. It filled my spiritual hunger but it did not distract me from my craving for food.
Yes, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Anyway, I found myself in front of my computer and watch Cinderella’s Sister. I was not really interested on it since it has a storyline of character reversals from the original goodie Cinderella to the baddie stepsis. Besides, I want to veer away from anything close to a melodrama. Coming from getting addicted to Chuno and getting my fill of angst, pain and lost love. I just could not take another drama beating. Maybe I was too tired of Dae Gil’s 10 years of Un Nyun hunting that I want to rest for a bit.

However, things changed after watching the pilot episode of Cinderella’s Sister. My only reason for watching it is because it was already downloaded for me and it will such a waste if I will just let it rest on my Seado. Anyway, I was drawn to Moon Geun Young’s character. Even if I do find Seo Woo’s  such an irritating character (or her performance), I want to see how they develop the characters. I have so many theories on how the story will go and from the previews, it was kind of predictable to me. Although, one can’t trust previews as they tend to misled the viewers.

Since, you get the feeling that it has depth and they have only showed the tip of the iceberg, I sure am going to watch the next episode. The only thing I do not like  is the shouting matches between the mother and daughter. It is expected as they share that kind of relationship but darn it, I had my fill of those from Chuno. I am afraid if this continues, MGY might lose her voice before they even get to the third episode.

I might also give this up if the character of Seo Woo continues to act like a baby, an irritating one at that. However, it could be intentional from the director but oh God, I can’t stand it. Thank God I do not have any sister like that. I even made sure that my nieces will be as cool, strong and hip as their aunt. No babytalk, no irritating and overly sweet-childish mannerisms.
Anyway, if she turns out to be the “real” baddie in the series, I hope they develop her character into something that is quite tolerable. I mean the acting hopefully becomes more stable. I think she is overdoing it.
This is also the first time I focused on the women of a drama series. I would usually check on the men but this time I looked at the story and the main lead actress. So, it was a delight when I saw the main lead actor. There is something in Cheon Jeong Myeong that I can’t help but smile everytime I see him on the screen.

So, the new dramas are off to a good start. TV Ratings showed that Cinderella’s Sister reigns supreme on the Wednesday-thursday timeslot. However, we will see if Lee Min Ho’s Personal Taste will gain momentum over the next few episodes. However, judging from the first episodes, the rankings will stay the same. It probably because of the kind of story they have. This drama series is more melo while PT is more fun. Correct me if I’m wrong but most viewers prefer angst and tears over joy and laughters.
